Discovery of Plant Hormones - F.W. Went's Experiment
- F.W. Went (1903-1990), a Dutch botanist, discovered auxin through his coleoptile experiment
- He cut oat plant coleoptiles and placed them on agar jelly, which absorbed the chemical substance
- When agar blocks were placed on cut coleoptiles, growth occurred toward the upper side

- Auxin tends to move away from light (negative phototropism)

- Auxins: Increase stem length, inhibit lateral bud growth, regulate tropic movements, stimulate flower and fruit formation
