Key Topics to Revise
1
Nature of Light and Ray Optics
- Light is electromagnetic radiation with dual nature (wave and particle)
- Speed of light in vacuum: c = 3×10⁸ m/s
- Ray optics assumes light travels in straight lines in homogeneous medium
2
Reflection - Plane and Spherical Mirrors
- Laws of reflection: (1) Incident, reflected rays and normal are coplanar (2) i = r
- Plane mirror: virtual, same size, laterally inverted image
- Multiple images in inclined mirrors: N = 360°/θ - 1 (conditions apply)
3
Refraction and Total Internal Reflection
- Snell's law: n₁sinθ₁ = n₂sinθ₂
- Light bends toward normal when entering denser medium
- Real depth/Apparent depth = refractive index (for plane surfaces)
4
Lenses and Lens Formula
- Convex lenses converge light, concave lenses diverge light
- Same mirror formula applies to lenses: 1/f = 1/v + 1/u
- Lens maker's formula: 1/f = (n-1)(1/R₁ - 1/R₂)
