Solutions

5 entries
Raoult's Law: Partial vapour pressure of component = vapour pressure of pure component × mole fraction
For binary solutions: P₁ = x₁P₁⁰ and P₂ = x₂P₂⁰
Total pressure P = P₁ + P₂ = x₁P₁⁰ + x₂P₂⁰
States that solubility of gas in liquid is directly proportional to pressure of gas above solution: S = K_H × P.
Vapor pressure of component in solution equals vapor pressure of pure component multiplied by its mole fraction: P₁ = x₁P₁⁰.

Degree of dissociation (α) = moles dissociated / total moles
Pure water undergoes self-ionization: 2H₂O ⇌ H₃O⁺ + OH⁻
Ionic product of water: Kw = [H₃O⁺][OH⁻] = 1.0 × 10⁻¹⁴ at 25°C
pH = -log₁₀[H⁺], pOH = -log₁₀[OH⁻]
For weak acids: Ka = α²c/(1-α), and for very weak acids Ka = α²c, so α = √(Ka/c).
