Formulas and Key Relations
Raoult's Law and Vapour Pressure
Raoult's Law
Partial vapour pressure of component = vapour pressure of pure component × mole fraction
For binary solutions
P₁ = x₁P₁⁰ and P₂ = x₂P₂⁰
Total pressure P = P₁ + P₂ = x₁P₁⁰ + x₂P₂⁰
Key relations
States that solubility of gas in liquid is directly proportional to pressure of gas above solution: S = K_H × P.
Vapor pressure of component in solution equals vapor pressure of pure component multiplied by its mole fraction: P₁ = x₁P₁⁰.
