- The X-axis is a horizontal number line with positive numbers to the right of origin and negative numbers to the left
- The Y-axis is a vertical number line with positive numbers above the origin and negative numbers below

Coordinates of Points
- Every point has a unique ordered pair of coordinates (x,y)
- x-coordinate (abscissa) is the perpendicular distance from Y-axis
- y-coordinate (ordinate) is the perpendicular distance from X-axis

- To plot a point (a,b): move 'a' units along X-axis, then 'b' units parallel to Y-axis
- Start from origin for measuring distances
- Use positive direction for positive coordinates, negative direction for negative coordinates

- Equation of line parallel to X-axis at distance 'k' from it: y = k
