Energy Flow in an Ecosystem — Important Questions

Grasshopper, Elephant, Squirrel

Herbivores are primary consumers that feed directly on plants. Grasshopper, elephant, and squirrel are all herbivores. Tiger is a carnivore and frog is also a carnivore that feeds on insects.

True

True. The energy pyramid demonstrates that energy decreases as it moves from one trophic level to the next. This is because energy is lost as heat during metabolic processes at each level.

Grass → Deer → Tiger

The correct food chain is Grass → Deer → Tiger. Grass is the producer, deer is the primary consumer (herbivore) that eats grass, and tiger is the secondary consumer (carnivore) that eats deer.

They break down dead organisms, They include fungi and bacteria, They return nutrients to soil

Decomposers break down dead organisms, include fungi and bacteria, and return nutrients to the soil. They do not make their own food (they are heterotrophs) and are not apex predators.
