  • Main uses include letters, reports, newsletters, tables, form letters, brochures, and Web pages.

2. Screen Layout and Typing Area Objects

  • The Word screen contains tabs, menus, sub menus, shortcut commands, toolbars, rulers, and the typing area.
  • The typing area is the open area below the rulers and toolbars.
  • Three permanent objects in the typing area are the insertion point, mouse pointer, and end-of-document marker.

3. Creating, Saving, Opening, Closing, and Managing Documents

  • A new document can be opened using CTRL+N.
  • An existing document can be opened using CTRL+O.
  • A document can be saved using CTRL+S.

4. Protecting Documents

  • Word provides protection from accidental changes and from other users accessing a document.
  • Password to open protects a document from other users accessing it.
  • The password can be up to 15 characters, case-sensitive, and can include letters, numerals, spaces, and symbols.
