CBSE Class 9 Sample Papers — What to Practise With in 2026-27

CBSE Class 9 sample papers: why CBSE doesn't publish them, what to practise with for the new 2026-27 syllabus, and how to use practice papers for the exam.

CBSE publishes official sample papers only for the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. Class 9 exams are set by your school — and from 2026-27, Class 9 follows a new syllabus with new NCERT textbooks. Here is what to practise with, and how.

What to Practise With

  • NCERT textbook exercises and in-text questions — the new Class 9 books are the syllabus, and school papers follow them closely.
  • Your school's model papers and past papers — they show how your teachers set the paper.
  • The Class 9 question design — every theory paper is 50% competency-focused questions, 20% MCQs and 30% short and long answers, 80 marks in 3 hours. See our Class 9 exam pattern guide for unit-wise marks.
  • Chapter-wise practice questions — useful for fixing weak chapters before you attempt a full paper.

How to Use Practice Papers

  1. Set a timer — 3 hours, as in the real exam.
  2. Solve without notes — this tests what you actually know.
  3. Check your answers honestly — note the chapters where you lost marks.
  4. Re-attempt wrong questions after 2–3 days.

When to Start

  • Once most of the syllabus for that exam is done — full papers are for testing, not first learning.
  • A few weeks before the exam — leave time to fix what the papers show up.
  • In the last week — solve at least one timed paper for each main subject.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CBSE publish official Class 9 sample papers?

No. CBSE's official sample question papers are for the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams. Class 9 exams are set by your school, so your best guide to the paper is your school's own model or previous papers, plus the Class 9 syllabus and question design.

With care. From 2026-27, Class 9 follows a new syllabus and new NCERT textbooks, so older papers may include chapters that are no longer taught or miss new ones. Use them for question practice, but check each chapter against the 2026-27 syllabus.

Quality matters more than number. A few full papers solved under timed conditions and checked honestly will help more than many papers skimmed. Re-attempt the questions you got wrong a few days later.
