1. Computer System and CPU
- A computer system primarily comprises CPU, memory, input/output devices, and storage devices.
- CPU is the electronic circuitry that carries out the actual processing and is called the brain of the computer.
- CPU is also popularly known as processor or microprocessor.
2. Evolution of Computer and Architecture
- Von Neumann architecture consists of CPU, memory, input/output devices, and communication channels.
- ENIAC is the first binary programmable computer based on Von Neumann architecture.
- In 1965, Gordon Moore introduced Moore's Law.
3. Computer Memory and Units
- Computer memory stores data and instructions for processing.
- Primary memory is the main memory used during processing.
- Secondary memory stores data, instructions, and results permanently for future use.
4. Data Transfer and Bus System
- Data are transferred between components of a computer system using physical wires called bus.
- Three types of bus are data bus, address bus, and control bus.
- Data bus transfers data between different components.
