  • Ecology is the web of physical and biological systems and processes of which humans are one element.
  • Human beings are not separate from nature; society and nature influence each other constantly.

2. Human Impact on Nature

  • Deforestation is the loss of forest area due to cutting down trees and/or taking over land for other purposes, usually cultivation.
  • Human action can cause floods, dryness, and climate change by altering forests, rivers, and land use.
  • The Delhi Ridge forest is human-planted vegetation, not natural vegetation.

  • Property relations decide who can use natural resources and on what terms.
  • Private ownership, government ownership, and unequal access shape the use of land, water, and forests.

  • Resource depletion is one of the major environmental problems.
  • Pollution is a major environmental problem and includes air pollution, water pollution, and noise pollution.
  • Global warming is a major environmental problem caused by gases that trap heat in the atmosphere.
