  • ह्रस्वः एकमात्रः स्वरः अस्ति।
  • दीर्घः द्विमात्रः स्वरः अस्ति।

व्यञ्जनानि तथा अर्धमात्रा

  • सर्वे व्यञ्जनाः सदैव अर्धमात्रिकाः एव भवन्ति।

  • व्यञ्जनानां चत्वारः भेदाः सन्ति—स्पर्शाः, अन्तःस्थाः, ऊष्माणः, अयोगवाही।

  • प्लुतः विशेषतः दूरात् आह्वाने प्रयुज्यते।
  • ओंकारोच्चारणे अपि प्लुतस्वरस्य प्रयोगः दृश्यते।
  • हे३ राम ! इति दूराह्वानस्य उदाहरणम्।

  • रामः, सीता, हनुमान्, भरतः, कौसल्या, लक्ष्मणः, शत्रुघ्नः इत्यादीनां मात्रा-गणना ज्ञातुं शक्यते।
  • मात्रागणना शुद्धोच्चारणाय, शब्दबोधाय, श्लोकरचनाय च उपयोगी भवति।
  • श्लोकरचनायां मात्राणां निश्चितगणना आवश्यकी अस्ति।
