Gujarat Board Class 10 Mathematics — Formula Sheet

Gujarat Board Class 10 Mathematics formula sheet, chapter by chapter — 41 formulas across 8 chapters. Follows the GSEB syllabus.

How to Use the Formula Sheet

  1. Write, don't just read — writing each formula out helps it stick.
  2. Understand the derivation — you can rebuild a formula you half-remember.
  3. Group related formulas — link the ones that build on each other.
  4. Test yourself — cover the sheet and write the formulas from memory.

Real Numbers

Examples of irrationals: √2, √3, √5, √7, π, 0.10110111011110...
The proof that √2 is irrational uses a method called 'Proof by Contradiction'.
STEP 1 — Assume the Opposite: Assume that √2 is rational.
STEP 2 — Write in Fraction Form: Since √2 is rational, we can write √2 = a/b, where a and b are integers, b ≠ 0, and HCF(a, b) = 1 (i.e., a and b are coprime).
STEP 3 — Square Both Sides: Squaring gives 2 = a²/b², so a² = 2b².

Degree 1 → Linear Polynomial (e.g., 2x + 3)
A real number k is called a ZERO of polynomial p(x) if p(k) = 0.
To find if k is a zero, substitute x = k into the polynomial and check if the result is 0.
Example: For p(x) = x² - 3x - 4, p(-1) = (-1)² - 3(-1) - 4 = 1 + 3 - 4 = 0. So -1 is a zero.
The graph of y = ax + b (linear polynomial) is a STRAIGHT LINE that intersects the x-axis at exactly one point: (-b/a, 0). This x-coordinate is the zero.

A linear equation in two variables has the general form: ax + by + c = 0, where a, b, c are real numbers and a ≠ 0, b ≠ 0.
The general form of a pair of linear equations is: a₁x + b₁y + c₁ = 0 and a₂x + b₂y + c₂ = 0.
