Establishment of the Mughal Empire
- The Mughal Empire was founded by Babur in 1526 AD.
- Babur's original name was Zahiruddin Mohammad Babur.
- Before the Mughals, the Sultanate period existed in India along with several Rajput states.
Important Mughal Rulers
- The six main Mughal rulers are: Babur, Humayun, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb.
- Babur (1526–1530): Founded the empire, wrote his autobiography 'Tuzuk-i-Baburi' (Baburnama), was fluent in Persian and Arabic, and was a nature lover.
- Humayun (1530–1540, 1555–1556): Defeated by Sher Shah Suri in the Battle of Kannauj (1540), fled to Iran, later returned and re-established Mughal rule in 1555. Died after falling from the steps of hi
Other Important Rulers of the Period
- Rana Sangram Singh (Rana Sanga): Ruler of Mewar, contemporary of Babur. Was brave and won many battles but was defeated in the Battle of Khanwa against Babur.
- Maharana Pratap: Ruler of Mewar who bravely fought against Akbar. The Battle of Haldighati (1576) was fought between them. After defeat, he shifted capital to Gogunda and later to Chawand in Dungarpur
- Veer Durgadas Rathod: Son of Ashkaran Rathod, minister of Jaswant Singh of Marwar. He refused to accept Aurangzeb's dominion. Compared to Rana Pratap in bravery.
Mughal Administration
- Akbar systematically established the Mughal administration.
- The Emperor was the supreme head — the centre of all rule, the supreme commander and supreme judge.
- Vazir (Diwan-e-Wazir-e-Kul): Coordinated between emperor and administration; also head of finance and revenue.
