Expanded & Compact Form

Number = Thousands + Hundreds + Tens + Ones

Place Value and Face Value

Place value = digit × value of its place (e.g., 5 in hundreds place = 5 × 100 = 500).

Expanded and Compact Form

If a place has 0, we skip it in expanded form (e.g., 2047 = 2000 + 40 + 7).

Key relations

For example, 2345 = 2000 + 300 + 40 + 5.

For example, 7000 + 400 + 50 + 8 = 7458.
