ICSE Class 4 Mathematics — Formula Sheet

ICSE Class 4 Mathematics formula sheet, chapter by chapter — 82 formulas across 14 chapters. Starts with Numbers, Roman Numerals and Addition.

How to Use the Formula Sheet

  1. Write, don't just read — writing each formula out helps it stick.
  2. Understand the derivation — you can rebuild a formula you half-remember.
  3. Group related formulas — link the ones that build on each other.
  4. Test yourself — cover the sheet and write the formulas from memory.

Numbers

4 entries
Number = Sum of (Digit × Place Value)
1 Lakh = 100,000 (6-digit number)
10 ten thousands = 1 Lakh (1,00,000)
For example, 57,103 = 50,000 + 7,000 + 100 + 3.

Roman Numerals

8 entries
Rule 1: Repeating a symbol adds its value. For example, II = 2, XXX = 30.
A symbol can be repeated only up to three times. So III = 3, but 4 is not IIII.
Special cases: 4 = IV, 9 = IX, 40 = XL, 49 = XLIX.
Numbers like 14 = 10 + 4 = X + IV = XIV.
Repeating a symbol adds its value (e.g., III = 3).

Addition

5 entries
a + b = b + a
a + 0 = a
(a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
Add column-wise from right to left with carry-over
For example, 893247 + 0 = 893247.
