Topics in Interrogative Sentences
What Are Interrogative Sentences?
- A sentence that asks a question is called an interrogative sentence.
- All interrogative sentences end with a question mark (?).
- They can be yes/no questions or questions with question words like what, where, when, who, why, how, etc.
How to Make Sentences Interrogative
- If the sentence has 'be' verbs (am, is, are, was, were), move them to the beginning.
- If the sentence has 'have/has/had', use 'Have you?' or 'Do you have?'
- For sentences with helping verbs (is, are, was, etc.), move the helping verb to the front.
Interrogative Sentences with Question Words
- We use question words like what, where, when, who, whom, whose, which, why, and how to ask specific questions.
- Structure: Question word + helping verb (do/does/did/am/is/are) + subject + main verb?
- The answer gives specific information, not just yes or no.
Question Tags
- A question tag is a short question added at the end of a statement to confirm it.
- Positive statement → negative tag (e.g., 'You are happy, aren't you?').
