What to Focus On

  • Tenses show the time of an action.
  • There are three tenses: present, past, and future.
  • Tense does not always match the actual time of the action.
  • 'Be' has different forms: am, is, are, was, were, will be.
  • It can be a main verb or a helping verb.
  • Negative: add 'not' after the verb.
  • 'Have' shows possession or experience.
  • It can be used as 'have got' in present tense.
  • Past tense uses 'had'.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Future tense always uses 'will' — 'shall' is outdated and never used.

If a sentence talks about the future, it must use future tense verb.

'Was' and 'were' are interchangeable — both mean past 'are'.
