Overview

A quadrilateral is a four-sided closed figure made up of straight lines. It has four sides, four angles, and four vertices. In this chapter, we explore different types of quadrilaterals such as trapezium, parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, and square. We also learn about their properties, angle rela

Key Concepts

The total of all four interior

The total of all four interior angles in any quadrilateral is always 360°. This helps us find missing angles when three are known.

A quadrilateral with exactly one pair

A quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides. If the non-parallel sides are equal, it is called an isosceles trapezium.

A quadrilateral with both pairs

A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel. Opposite sides and angles are equal, and diagonals bisect each other.

A parallelogram where each angle

A parallelogram where each angle is 90°. Opposite sides are equal and diagonals are equal in length.

A quadrilateral with all four sides

A quadrilateral with all four sides equal. Diagonals bisect each other at 90° and also bisect the angles.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand what a quadrilateral is and identify its parts.
  • Learn that the sum of interior angles of any quadrilateral is 360°.
  • Identify different types of quadrilaterals and their special properties.
  • Solve problems involving angles and sides of quadrilaterals.
  • Apply properties of parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, and squares.
