1967-70

The Green Revolution in India occurred during 1967-70. During this period, foodgrain production increased dramatically from 74 million tonnes in 1967 to 108 million tonnes in 1970. This was achieved through the use of high-yielding variety seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and improved irrigation. The period 1947-50 was just after independence when planning was being established, 1980-85 was much later, and 1990-95 was the period of economic liberalization.

Dr. M.S. Swaminathan

Dr. M.S. Swaminathan is called the 'Father of Indian Green Revolution' for his significant role in implementing improved agricultural technology in India. He helped introduce high-yielding variety seeds, chemical fertilizers, and modern farming techniques that dramatically increased food production. The 'pre' prefix means 'before', so it's the technology applied before the harvest. Post-harvest technology deals with processing and marketing after crops are harvested, while storage and marketing technologies are separate aspects that come after the growing phase.
