South-Western Railway

South-Western Railway Zone has its headquarters at Hubballi. Initially, Karnataka's railways belonged to the Southern Railway Zone, but later the South-Western Railways Zone was created with Hubballi as its headquarters. This zone manages railway operations in Karnataka and neighboring areas, making Hubballi an important railway administrative center.

The total length of roads in Karnataka at present is 3,32,743.15 km. This shows significant development from 43,182 km when Vishala Mysuru State was formed in 1961. Of this total length, 35.70% are metalled (asphalted) roads and 64.30% are unmetalled roads, indicating ongoing infrastructure development in the state.

October 20, 2011

The first Metro rail service in Bengaluru was started on October 20, 2011, between Byappanahalli and M.G. Road. This was part of the Namma Metro Rail Transport Plan to solve transportation problems in the growing metropolitan city. The metro rail significantly reduced travel time and now serves lakhs of people daily with extended routes.
