Formulas and Key Relations

Distance on a Number Line and in the XY Plane

Distance between P(-1) and Q(-5) on number line = 4

Distance between Q(-5) and R(4) on number line = 9

AB = √((x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2)

d(O,P) = √(x^2 + y^2)

AC = √17 for A(2,3) and C(-2,2)

Section Formula, Midpoint, and Centroid

Section formula (internal division): ((mx2 + nx1)/(m + n), (my2 + ny1)/(m + n))

Midpoint formula: ((x1 + x2)/2, (y1 + y2)/2)

Centroid formula: ((x1 + x2 + x3)/3, (y1 + y2 + y3)/3)

AG:GD = 2:1

AP/PB = CQ/QD = m/n

Slope of a Line

m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

m = tan θ

Slope of X-axis = (0 - 0)/(x2 - x1) = 0

Slope of Y-axis = (y2 - y1)/(0 - 0)

Distance on a Number Line and in the XY-Plane

Distance between P and Q on a number line is 4 when P = -1 and Q = -5.

Distance between Q and R on a number line is 9 when Q = -5 and R = 4.

Section Formula and Midpoint Formula

If AP = 6 and PB = 10, then AP/PB = 3/5.

Centroid of a Triangle

The median AD divides the triangle in such a way that AG:GD = 2:1.
