What to Focus On
- Area of a triangle = 1/2 × base × height
- A(ΔABC)/A(ΔPQR) = (BC × AD)/(QR × PS)
- Equal heights give area ratio = base ratio
- BPT: a line parallel to one side divides the other two sides proportionally
- To prove BPT: AP/PB = AQ/QC
- Converse of BPT: equal ratios on two sides imply parallelism
- Angle bisector theorem gives AE/EB = CA/CB
- CB = CD is obtained from congruent angles in ΔCBD
- The converse says AB/AC = BD/DC implies AD bisects ∠BAC
Common Mistakes to Avoid
AA test and AAA test are the same thing, so any two equal angles are enough without thinking about correspondence.
SSS similarity works for any matching of side ratios, even if the correspondence is written in the wrong order.
In SAS similarity, any equal angle can be used as long as two side ratios are equal.
