- A market exists when there is interaction between buyers and sellers.
- A market requires a commodity, buyers and sellers, and communication between them.

- Market structure means the nature of the product and the number of sellers and buyers.
- Two extreme forms of market are monopoly market and perfectly competitive market.

3. Monopoly Market
- The word Monopoly is derived from Greek words 'Monos' meaning single and 'Polus' meaning seller.
- Under monopoly there is a single seller and no close substitute.
- There is no difference between firm and industry under monopoly because there is only one seller.

- Perfect competition is the opposite extreme of monopoly.
- There are large numbers of sellers and buyers.
- The product is homogeneous, meaning the same type of product is sold by all sellers.
