SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) recruits for four main post types across central ministries and departments, each mapped to a 7th CPC pay level. Basic pay is fixed by the level; in-hand adds DA and HRA and subtracts NPS.

Basic pay is the fixed 7th CPC entry cell. In-hand = basic + Dearness Allowance (60% from 1 January 2026) + HRA + Transport Allowance (with DA on it) − NPS (10% of basic + DA) − CGHS, before income tax. The lower figure is a Z-class town (HRA 10%), the higher an X-class metro (HRA 30%).
What makes up the in-hand salary

- Dearness Allowance — 60% of basic from January 2026, revised every January and July.
- House Rent Allowance — 30% / 20% / 10% for X / Y / Z class cities.
- Transport Allowance — fixed by level and city, itself increased by DA.
