Study Plan

1
Day 1–2

Learn the Theory

Read the textbook chapter carefully. Note down definitions, formulas and key ideas. Focus on: 1. Basic idea of probability, 2. Experimental probability and coin toss data, 3. Sample space, elementary events, and mutually exclusive events.

2
Day 3

Practise

Solve the textbook exercises and extra practice questions. There are 43 questions available for this chapter.

3
Day 4

Revise & Test

Revise key points without looking at your notes. Take a practice quiz and mark weak areas for another pass.

4
Day 7

Spaced Revision

Come back to Probability after a week. Use flashcards for quick recall and try past exam questions on this chapter.

What to Focus On

  • Probability is a numerical measure of chance.
  • Random experiment: result is uncertain, but possible outcomes are known.
  • Experimental probability uses actual trials.
  • Equally likely outcomes have equal chance of occurrence.
  • Sample space is the set of all possible outcomes.
  • For one coin toss, the sample space is {H, T}.
  • Experimental probability is an estimate from actual data.
  • More trials usually give a more stable probability.
  • For a fair coin, the theoretical probability of head is 1/2.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Tossing two coins has only three equally likely outcomes: two heads, two tails, or one of each.

When a die is thrown, odd and even are the two equally likely outcomes, so each has probability 1/2 without checking the six faces.

A complementary event means simply 'the other event' even if the two events do not cover all outcomes or overlap.
