Study Plan

1
Day 1–2

Learn the Theory

Read the textbook chapter carefully. Note down definitions, formulas and key ideas. Focus on: Division Algorithm and Euclid's Algorithm, Prime Factorisation, HCF and LCM, Decimal Expansions of Rational Numbers.

2
Day 3

Practise

Solve the textbook exercises and extra practice questions. There are 43 questions available for this chapter.

3
Day 4

Revise & Test

Revise key points without looking at your notes. Take a practice quiz and mark weak areas for another pass.

4
Day 7

Spaced Revision

Come back to Real Numbers after a week. Use flashcards for quick recall and try past exam questions on this chapter.

What to Focus On

  • Division Algorithm: a = bq + r, 0 ≤ r < b
  • The quotient and remainder are unique
  • Euclid's algorithm finds HCF by repeated division
  • Every composite number has a prime factorisation
  • Prime factorisation is unique apart from order
  • HCF uses smallest powers of common primes
  • Rational numbers are of the form p/q
  • Every rational number is either terminating or non-terminating repeating
  • Terminating decimals have denominators with only 2s and/or 5s in simplest form

Common Mistakes to Avoid

The Division Algorithm and Euclid's algorithm are the same thing.

Any remainder is allowed in the Division Algorithm as long as a = bq + r looks correct.

If a number is divisible by 2, 3, 4, and 5 in separate checks, the answer to the bee puzzle can be any such number.
