7.1 Introduction to Mensuration
- Mensuration is applied geometry dealing with measurements of areas and volumes
- 2D shapes have only area; 3D shapes have both surface area and volume
- Surface area is the total area of all exposed surfaces of a solid

7.2 Right Circular Cylinder
- A cylinder is formed by revolving a rectangle about one of its sides
- It has two circular bases and one curved surface
- Height (h) is perpendicular to the circular base; radius (r) is the distance from center to the circumference

- A cone is formed by revolving a right-angled triangle about one of its perpendicular sides
- It has one circular base and one curved surface that tapers to a point (apex)
- Slant height (l) is the distance from apex to any point on the base circle edge

- A sphere is formed by revolving a semicircle about its diameter
- Every cross-section of a sphere is a circle
- A great circle is formed when the cross-section passes through the center; all others are small circles
