What to Focus On

  • Partnership is based on agreement and mutual trust.
  • Minimum 2 and maximum 50 partners allowed.
  • Profit and loss are shared in an agreed ratio.

  • Partnership deed is a written agreement that defines partner roles and profit sharing.
  • Without a deed, the Partnership Act, 1932 rules apply.
  • Interest on partner’s loan is always allowed at 6% p.a. even without a deed.

  • Fixed capital: two accounts (Capital and Current), balance remains fixed.
  • Fluctuating capital: one account, balance changes every year.
  • Current account can have debit or credit balance; capital account in fixed method always has credit balance.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

In the absence of a partnership deed, no partner gets any salary or interest on capital, so we don’t need to make any adjustments in the Profit and Loss Appropriation Account.

Interest on capital is a profit-sharing right, so it should be given even if the firm incurs a loss.

Fixed capital means the capital account balance never changes at all.
