1Put down the images that come to your mind immediately when you see the words in the box.Show solution
This is an open-ended creative writing activity. The chapter asks you to note the images that come immediately to mind for each word. One possible response is:

- cat — a furry pet, whiskers, tail, soft purring
- cupboard — a wooden storage box, shelves, clothes or utensils inside
- wall — a long boundary, bricks, painted surface, posters
- pond — still water, lotus, frogs, reflection of trees
- bird — wings, flying in the sky, chirping, nest

Different students may write different images because creative writing depends on imagination and personal experience.

1Try to write four lines of poetry or four sentences of prose with one of these as the starting point.Show solution
This is also an open-ended creative writing activity. Here is one possible set of four lines of poetry starting with one of the given words:

The pond lay still beneath the evening sky,
Its silver surface caught each passing sigh.
A lonely bird flew home across the light,
And ripples faded softly into night.

Any original four lines or four sentences based on one of the given words is acceptable.
