What are amines?

Answer

Amines are derivatives of ammonia obtained by replacing one, two, or all three hydrogen atoms of ammonia by alkyl and/or aryl groups. General idea: NH3 → amines by substitution of H atoms.

Why do amines have pyramidal geometry?

Answer

Nitrogen in amines is sp3 hybridised and has one lone pair. Three sp3 orbitals form bonds and the fourth contains the lone pair. This gives a pyramidal shape and bond angles less than 109.5°. Example
