1. Tense and its main types

  • Tense shows the time of an action through the form of a verb.
  • There are three main tenses: past, present, and future.
  • Each main tense has four forms: simple, continuous, perfect, and perfect continuous.

2. Present Tense

  • Present tense has four forms: simple present, present continuous, present perfect, and present perfect continuous.
  • Simple present tense is used for habitual actions, universal facts, conditional clauses, and future events such as schedules.
  • Present continuous tense is used for actions happening at the time of speaking, temporary actions, and future events.

3. Past Tense

  • Past tense has four forms: simple past, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous.
  • Simple past tense is used for an action completed in the past and for a past habit.
  • Past continuous tense is used for an action happening at some point or period of time in the past.

  • Future tense has four forms: simple future, future continuous, future perfect, and future perfect continuous.
  • Simple future tense is used for a planned future action or a possible future event.
  • Future continuous tense is used for an action that will happen in the future and continue for some time.
