- Insects are found almost everywhere — in homes, gardens, soil, and water.
- Common insects include ants, houseflies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, beetles, butterflies, and bees.

Body Parts of an Insect
- All insects have three main body parts: head, thorax, and abdomen.
- The head has eyes, mouth, and antennae for smelling and feeling.
- The thorax has three pairs of legs and usually one or two pairs of wings.
Life Cycle of a Butterfly
- Butterflies go through four stages in their life cycle: Egg → Caterpillar → Pupa → Adult Butterfly.
- The female butterfly lays eggs on leaves.
- The caterpillar hatches from the egg and eats leaves to grow.
Social Insects
- Some insects live together in groups called colonies — these are social insects.
- Examples: ants, bees, wasps, and termites.
- In an ant colony, there are queen ants (lay eggs), worker ants (collect food), and male ants.
