1. Change of State of Water
- Water can change from one form to another: solid (ice), liquid (water), and gas (water vapour).
- Evaporation happens when water turns into vapour due to heat from the Sun.
- Condensation happens when water vapour turns back into water due to cooling.
2. The Water Cycle
- The water cycle is the continuous movement of water between the Earth and the atmosphere.
- Steps: Evaporation → Condensation → Cloud formation → Rain or snow → Collection in rivers, lakes, oceans.
- The Sun is the main driver of the water cycle.
3. Impurities in Water
- Water from rivers, lakes, and ponds has impurities and is not safe to drink directly.
- Impurities can be soluble (dissolve in water) or insoluble (do not dissolve).
- Soluble impurities include salts of sodium, calcium, magnesium, and iron.
4. Purification of Water
- Water must be purified before drinking to remove dirt and kill germs.
- Common methods: Boiling, Chlorination, and Water Purifiers.
- Boiling kills germs by heating water for 5–10 minutes.
