  • Insects are found almost everywhere — in homes, gardens, soil, and water.
  • Common insects include ants, houseflies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, beetles, butterflies, and bees.
  • Butterflies are colorful and beautiful, while cockroaches and houseflies are usually dull in color.

Body Parts of an Insect

  • All insects have three main body parts: head, thorax, and abdomen.
  • The head has eyes, mouth, and antennae for smelling and feeling.
  • The thorax has three pairs of legs and usually one or two pairs of wings.

Life Cycle of a Butterfly

  • Butterflies go through four stages in their life cycle: Egg → Caterpillar → Pupa → Adult Butterfly.
