In this chapter, we learn about percentages, which are a way of expressing a part of a whole out of 100. The word 'percent' means 'per hundred'. For example, if you score 85 out of 100 in a test, your score is 85%. Percentages help us compare different quantities easily and are used in everyday life

A percentage is a fraction with 100 as the denominator. It is written with the symbol %. For example, 25% means 25 out of 100 or 25/100.

To convert a fraction to

To convert a fraction to a percentage, multiply it by 100 and add the % symbol. For example, 3/4 × 100 = 75%.

To convert a decimal to

To convert a decimal to a percentage, multiply it by 100 and move the decimal point two places to the right. For example, 0.6 = 60%.

To find a percentage of

To find a percentage of a number, convert the percentage to a fraction and multiply it by the number. For example, 20% of 80 = (20/100) × 80 = 16.

Divide the first quantity by

Divide the first quantity by the second and multiply by 100. For example, 20 out of 50 = (20/50) × 100 = 40%.
