Basic Roman Numerals and Their Values
Each letter stands for a specific number
I = 1, V = 5, X = 10, L = 50, C = 100, D = 500, M = 1000.
Rules for Writing Roman Numerals
Letters I, X, C, and M can be repeated up to 3 times only. For example: III = 3, XXX = 30, CCC = 300.
When a smaller numeral is on the right of a larger one, we add them. Example: VI = 5 + 1 = 6.
Key relations
For example, III = 3 and XXX = 30.
When a smaller numeral is on the right of a larger one, we add (e.g., VI = 6).
When it is on the left, we subtract (e.g., IV = 4).
