Common Mistakes to Avoid

V, L, and D can be subtracted just like I, X, and C.

I can be subtracted from any larger numeral, like L or C.

You can repeat V, L, or D three times to make larger numbers.

Memory Tips

Basic Roman Numerals: I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100, D=500, M=1000

I, X, C, M can be repeated up to 3 times; V, L, D never repeated

Subtraction Rule: I before V/X, X before L/C, C before D/M
