What is Force?

  • Force is a push or pull acting on an object.
  • We cannot see force, but we can observe its effects.
  • Force has both magnitude (strength) and direction.

Types of Forces

  • Contact Forces: Require physical touch (e.g., muscular force, friction).
  • Non-contact Forces: Act without touching (e.g., gravity, magnetic force).
  • Muscular force is a contact force applied by living beings.

Force of Friction

  • Friction opposes the relative motion between two surfaces in contact.
  • It always acts opposite to the direction of motion.
  • Friction produces heat and causes wear and tear.
