Present/Future reporting verb rule: If reporting verb = present/future tense → reported speech tense unchanged [reporting verb tense, reported speech

is/are/am → was/were [present tense forms of 'to be']

has/have → had [present perfect auxiliary]

was/were → had been [past tense forms of 'to be']

had been → no change [past perfect continuous form]

Pronouns and Time Expressions

First person pronouns/possessives change according to the subject of the reporting verb.

Second person pronouns/possessives change according to the object of the reporting verb.

Third person pronouns/possessives remain unchanged in indirect speech.
