  • Mean, median, and mode are measures of central tendency.
  • Mean is the average of the data.

  • Grouped data uses class intervals and frequencies.
  • The mean from grouped data is only approximate because class marks are used instead of exact scores.
  • Three methods are used to find mean from grouped frequency distribution: direct method, assumed mean method, and step deviation method.

  • When scores are large, they are grouped into class intervals.
  • If class intervals are not continuous, some values may not fit properly.
  • Classes must be made continuous before finding the median in such cases.

  • For grouped data, mode is estimated using the modal class.
  • The modal class is the class interval with the highest frequency.
