1. Earth Overshoot Day and the pressure on nature
- Earth Overshoot Day means the day when human consumption of natural resources for the year exceeds what nature can regenerate in that year.
- The Earth Overshoot Day for 2019 was 27 July 2019.
- This shows that resources created in 2019 were finished by 27 July 2019 only.

2. Daily habits that pollute water
- Toothpaste used for brushing contains phosphate, carbonate, fragrance and multi-colour chemicals amounting to 2-5 grams.
- Shaving uses up to 2-5 grams of sulphate, carbonate, stearic acid, ethanol, amine, fragrance chemicals.
- Soap used while bathing contains 6-10 grams of edible oils, aromatic chemicals, dyes, sulphates, carbonates, sodium, detergents.

3. Household wastewater and water saving calculations
- The amount of wastewater generated after use is more than 75-80% of the water used.
- If this wastewater is purified, that much water can be recovered for reuse.
- A housing society of 100 flats with 5 people each using 20 litres for bathing needs 10,000 litres per day for bathing water.

4. Sewage, treatment plants, and the correct treatment method
- Domestic sewage comes from bathroom, kitchen sinks, toilets, and wash basins.
- Domestic sewage has mild pollutants such as drainage dirt, rotten food, vegetables, and soap foam with negligible chemicals or metal.
- Factory sewage contains chemicals, metal particles, machine oils, and lubricants, so it has heavier pollution.
