  • A determinant is associated only with a square matrix.
  • Only square matrices have determinants; rectangular matrices do not have determinants.
  • The notation |A|, det A, and Δ all mean determinant of A.

  • A determinant of order three can be expanded along any row or any column.
  • All six expansions give the same value.
