1. Distance Between Points

  • Distance on the X-axis depends only on the x-coordinates.
  • Distance on the Y-axis depends only on the y-coordinates.
  • Distance is always taken as a positive value.

2. Section Formula, Midpoint, and Trisection

  • Section formula gives the coordinates of a point dividing a segment internally in a given ratio.
  • If the ratio is k:1, the formula becomes simpler.
  • Midpoint is a special case of section formula with ratio 1:1.

3. Centroid of a Triangle

  • The centroid is the point where the three medians of a triangle meet.
  • The centroid divides each median in the ratio 2:1 from the vertex.
  • The centroid coordinates are found by averaging the x-coordinates and the y-coordinates of the vertices.

4. Area of a Triangle and Collinearity

  • The area of a triangle formed by three points can be found by a coordinate formula.
  • Area of a triangle cannot be negative, so absolute value is used.
  • If the area of the triangle formed by three points is zero, the points are collinear.
