  • Statistics is used to study data collected for a specific purpose.
  • Mean, median, and mode are the three measures of central tendency.
  • A central value gives only a rough idea of the data. It does not show the spread of values.

  • Range is the simplest measure of dispersion.
  • Range uses only the maximum and minimum values of the data.
  • It gives a rough idea of variability.

  • Mean deviation is the mean of absolute deviations from a chosen central value.
  • It can be found about mean or about median.
  • Absolute values are used so that positive and negative deviations do not cancel.

  • Grouped data may be discrete frequency distribution or continuous frequency distribution.
  • Discrete frequency distribution has distinct values with frequencies.
  • Continuous frequency distribution has class intervals without gaps with frequencies.
