Formulas and Key Relations

HCF and Common Factors

HCF × LCM = Product of the two numbers

HCF of 30 and 72: 30 = 2 × 3 × 5; 72 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3; HCF = 2 × 3 = 6

HCF of 225 and 750: 225 = 3 × 3 × 5 × 5; 750 = 2 × 3 × 5 × 5 × 5; HCF = 3 × 5 × 5 = 75

LCM and Common Multiples

LCM of 14 and 35: 14 = 2 × 7; 35 = 5 × 7; LCM = 2 × 5 × 7 = 70

LCM of 96 and 360: 96 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3; 360 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5; LCM = 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 3 × 5 = 1440

Patterns, Properties, and Shortcuts

If one number is a factor of another, HCF of the pair = smaller number

If both numbers are doubled, their HCF also doubles

HCF of 14 × 6 and 14 × 9 = 42

Key relations

For example, 90 = 3 × 3 × 2 × 5, and 105 = 3 × 5 × 7.
