Classification of Fundamental Rights
- There are six categories of Fundamental Rights.
- The six categories are: Right to Equality, Right to Freedom, Rights against Exploitation, Right to Religion, Cultural and Educational Rights, and Right to Constitutional Remedies.
- Equality before law and freedom of conscience are rights given to all persons, including citizens and aliens.
Right to Equality
- Art. 14 guarantees equality before law and equal protection of laws.
- Art. 15 prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth.
- Art. 16 provides equality of opportunity in public employment.
Right to Freedom
- Art. 19 guarantees six essential freedoms.
- The six freedoms are speech and expression, peaceful assembly without arms, association or union, free movement, residence and settlement, and profession, trade, or business.
- Art. 20 protects against ex post facto laws, double punishment, and self-incrimination.
