Understanding Rupees and Paise

  • The Indian currency is called the Rupee (₹).
  • 1 Rupee = 100 Paise (p).
  • Paise is the smaller unit of money.

Converting Rupees to Paise and Vice Versa

  • To convert rupees to paise, multiply by 100.
  • To convert paise to rupees, divide by 100 or place a dot after two digits from the right.
  • When converting ₹ 12.45 to paise: ₹ 12 = 1200 p + 45 p = 1245 p.

Adding and Subtracting Money

  • Always align rupees with rupees and paise with paise using the dot (.)
  • Add or subtract paise first, then rupees.
  • If paise add up to more than 100, carry over 1 rupee.
