Key Topics to Revise
Understanding Rupees and Paise
- The Indian currency is called the Rupee (₹).
- 1 Rupee = 100 Paise (p).
- Paise is the smaller unit of money.
Converting Rupees to Paise and Vice Versa
- To convert rupees to paise, multiply by 100.
- To convert paise to rupees, divide by 100 or place a dot after two digits from the right.
- When converting ₹ 12.45 to paise: ₹ 12 = 1200 p + 45 p = 1245 p.
Adding and Subtracting Money
- Always align rupees with rupees and paise with paise using the dot (.)
- Add or subtract paise first, then rupees.
- If paise add up to more than 100, carry over 1 rupee.
Word Problems on Money
- Read the problem carefully to understand what is given and what is asked.
- Identify whether you need to add (total cost) or subtract (money left).
- Convert all amounts to the same unit if needed.
