Card 1Change of State

What is evaporation?

Answer

Evaporation is the process where water turns into water vapour when heated by the Sun. For example, water from ponds and lakes dries up in summer due to evaporation.

Card 2Change of State

What is condensation?

Answer

Condensation is when water vapour cools down and turns back into water. For example, tiny water drops form on the outside of a cold glass on a hot day.

Card 3Condensation

Why do we see water droplets on leaves in the morning?

Answer

These droplets are called dew. They form when water vapour in the air cools down at night and condenses on cold leaves and grass.

Card 4Change of State

What happens when you boil water in a pan with a lid?

Answer

Water evaporates into steam. When the steam touches the cold lid, it condenses into water droplets. This shows both evaporation and condensation.

Card 5Water Cycle

What is the water cycle?

Answer

The water cycle is the continuous movement of water between the Earth and the atmosphere through evaporation, condensation, and rainfall.

Card 6Water Cycle

How does rain form?

Answer

Water evaporates from rivers and oceans, rises as vapour, cools and condenses into clouds. When the droplets become heavy, they fall as rain.

Card 7Water Cycle

What are the three main steps of the water cycle?

Answer

1. Evaporation – water turns into vapour. 2. Condensation – vapour forms clouds. 3. Precipitation – water falls as rain or snow.

Card 8Water Cycle

Why doesn't all rainwater go back into rivers?

Answer

Some rainwater soaks into the ground and becomes groundwater. This water is stored underground and can be pumped out for use.
