Types of Plants

  • Plants are classified into five main types: Trees, Shrubs, Herbs, Climbers, and Creepers.
  • Trees are big and tall with strong, woody stems called trunks. Example: Mango, Neem.
  • Shrubs are short and bushy with hard stems. They branch out near the ground. Example: Rose, Tulsi.

  • We eat different parts of plants: leaves, roots, stems, fruits, seeds, and flowers.
  • Edible leaves: Spinach, Cabbage, Coriander, Mint.
  • Edible roots: Carrot, Radish, Beetroot, Turnip. These store food for the plant.

Plant Products

  • Plants give us more than just food — they provide oils, spices, beverages, and medicines.
  • Oils are made from seeds and fruits. Examples: Mustard oil, Coconut oil, Groundnut oil.
  • Spices add flavor and smell to food. Examples: Cumin seeds, Clove (dried flower bud), Cinnamon (bark), Turmeric (stem powder).
